Alaska Pacific University offers culturally responsive education through collaboration with students, the community, and Tribal partners. Community support was instrumental in establishing what was first called Alaska Methodist University in 1960, when Peter Gordon Gould, an Unangax from the village of Unga, led a successful fundraising effort for the first private liberal arts college in Alaska. Today, APU remains committed to a vision of honoring Alaska's Indigenous heritage, exemplifying excellence, and preparing pathways for the future.
